The SU Stamp Bureau? - SU supporters donate stamps, the SU stamp team organises them and prices them and the stamp collecting community out there (the philatelic community, to give them their formal name) - both around Scotland and more widely - buys them. Over the 50 years that we have been operating, this work has brought in over £40,000 which otherwise just would not have been there.

It is always gratifying to find that one's public image is viewed positively, and this is equally true for individuals and for organisations. Philatelists who have bought recently from the SU Stamp Bureau have been effusive in their praise for our goods and for the service received. Here are just a few of their recent comments.

A collector in Winchester, to whom we sold a Stanley Gibbons Great Britain album for £35, said, “Excellent service, first class, highly recommended.”

We sold a set of stamps from Spanish Guinea commemorating the Red Cross for £18 to a collector in Wandsworth, who wrote, “Great stamps, great service.”

We sold £12 worth of Thai stamps to a collector in Bangkok, who said, “Perfect seller!”

A collector in Tavistock, to whom we sold £106 worth of unused Canadian stamps, wrote, “Excellent, and a pleasure to do business with”.

Sometimes, it's surprising to see who, living where, buys what. We sold £18 worth of Chinese stamps to a collector living in Lisbon. He said “The best stamps; the best seller”.

In the eyes of some collectors, an envelope with a story behind it can be just as attractive as stamps. For £15, we sold an envelope sent from war-time Egypt and bearing the postmark of the New Zealand Army's Field Post Office to a collector in Folkestone, who replied, “interesting cover, good condition, well packed, excellent service”.

There is more in the same vein, but the examples above show that trade is brisk, the materials which our donors donate to us find a ready market and the service we provide is appreciated.

This work depends, of course, on our supporters continuing to donate interesting material to us, so please keep donating! If you have stamps which you think might be of use to us, please contact John Mowat at the Glasgow Office or our stamp team leaders, Alistair Lawson or Karen Todd.
