Gap Year 2023/24

Thank you for reading about my Gap Year. I decided to do a gap year with SU Scotland because my faith is extremely important to me, and as a teenage Christian, Scripture Union camps, events and weekends have played a massive role in developing my own faith. As well as being a place where I could meet Christians my own age and build genuine friendships, the SU Holidays slogan, “You belong here”, could not be more true for me. I already enjoy volunteering for SU, running the group at my school and being on the planning team for Encounter, SU’s youth prayer conference. I want to help make sure that this positive experience of SU continues for younger Christians, because it is so vital. I also hope my own faith and confidence will develop during my year with SU.

In my spare time I love reading, which is my main hobby. I even have a bookstagram account (book Instagram) where I review books that publishers send me. I also love spending time with friends and family. I love music, and I play the bagpipes.

I have opted for the gap:local placement where I will be based in Ayrshire working with the local SU Staff. I am originally from Ayrshire, and my mum used to be the SU Regional worker there, and so I’m excited to be part of the Ayrshire team! Some of the things I will be involved with include local SU groups, volunteering in schools, SU Holidays, SU Holiday Clubs, youth groups, and discipleship groups for senior pupils. As well as training and some wider SU activities.
