RESPOND RWANDA 2019

Updates from the trip!

Day 17 update:

Today we celebrated Elizabeth’s birthday with morning birthday song, card and present, balloons and birthday cake (Rwandan style!) and was also the start of a 2-day training session with a group of Sunday school teachers, sharing insight into lesson plan ideas and how to best implement learning methods and the Gospel into what they teach their children!

We are officially into our last week here in Kigali - bittersweet feelings - wanting to fully embrace everything the next 3.5 days hold before we fly back home to loved ones!

Day 16 update:

Introducing: BILLY

Hey, I’m Billy. I am 18 years old and have just finished high school and will be studying at Edinburgh University in September.

Today we went back to Kiyovu. We sat in the Kinya Rwandan service for the first part before heading to the English service. Helen led a brilliant sermon to do with the lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost son (Luke 15) and we played some music for them as well. Straight after the service, we went to Jean-Baptiste’s house. He had graciously invited us to have lunch with him. We ate and enjoyed some more music with him. We also partook in some ceilidh dancing together.

Day 15 update:

Kids camp is officially DONE! 220 kids, 3.5 days, 6 biblestories, 5 bible verses learnt, Simon says, races, songs & lots of laughter! We as a team are honoured and so incredibly thankful for the opportunity to serve SU Rwanda and these children in this way!

Remember: Our God is so big & so strong & so mighty, there’s NOTHING our God cannot do!

Day 14 update:

Introducing: HELEN

I’m Helen, the team leader for the trip.
I have been part of the team for all of the previous Respond trips, making this my fourth time in Rwanda!

Why do I keep being drawn back to this beautiful and special country? Just some of the reasons are the people and their infectious joy and love for Jesus, the opportunity to be a blessing to so many whilst we are here, how close to and dependent on God I feel during the trip, and the opportunity it gives me to mentor and disciple the young people we bring from Scotland.

Today was our last full day of the children’s camp. God has answered all of our prayers for strength, energy and positivity and the team have done an amazing job at leading all of the activities and teaching sessions. I am so proud of them all!
It is such a joy and a privilege to be a part of this event and to see the excitement on the children’s faces as they play, sing and learn about God and his love for them.

Day 13 update:

Day 2 of camp is done! 2 sessions of games, songs, bible stories, memory verses, crafts and group discussions! Most of the kids are sleeping on campus and start their camp with 6.30am sports!

Enjoy the video of our theme song - a remix version of ‘Our God is so big’.. the kids LOVE it and I think we as a team do too!

“We have just finished day 2 of our kids camp – we expected 120 kids and 220 turned up! It has its challenges but we are SO excited to see so many kids wanting to learn more about Jesus!

Please pray for continued energy and strength and for the team continue to work well together!”
