Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to find about the work of Scripture Union within Lanarkshire. I grew up in both North and South Lanarkshire, so this region has a special place in my heart. I’m excited to work alongside Karen Stangoe within the region, and we are so encouraged by the opportunities and doors opening within Lanarkshire. To God be the glory.
If you would like to be kept up to date with more detailed information, then please register for our termly newsletter at the bottom of this page. Please do get in touch if you would like to find out how you could get involved.
Schools
SU Groups are a wonderful opportunity for children and young people to explore the Bible during lunch or after school, regardless of faith, background, orientation, or (dis)ability. In each of these schools we would love to see a thriving SU group which provides an exploration of the Bible in a fun and engaging way. With the highest population and number of schools among the regions of Scotland, SU in Lanarkshire is built by our army of volunteers who want to give the children and young people of Scotland the opportunity to explore the Bible and respond to the significance of Jesus. We are all a part of the SU family, but we also call ourselves “Team Lanarkshire”. Would you like to be a part of our team? Click here to find out more!
SU Scotland also offers a variety of interactive programmes to explore the Bible during class time. Bible Alive is an engaging series of seven class-based lessons which take P5-7 children on an exciting journey through the whole Bible. Additionally, we love to partner with local churches and deliver two-hour Christmas and Easter workshops for senior primary pupils. These provide a great opportunity for churches to engage with their local Primary schools. If you’re interested in hearing about the different resources available for you to engage with your local Primary school, please get in touch.
Churches
It is an incredible privilege to have the support of many churches throughout Lanarkshire. We acknowledge that without their support, be that volunteering, financial, or prayer, much of what we do would not be possible. We believe in partnering with and supporting the local Church, and would love to help with children’s ministry training, holiday clubs, speaking with your young people, or visiting and sharing about the work of SU in Lanarkshire. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Youth
We have various exciting opportunities for secondary aged young people to come together throughout Lanarkshire. There are Connect Groups dotted around the region, which provide a fun and relaxed environment for the young people to meet other Christians their age, explore the Bible, and grow in their faith together. Please click here to find the Connect Group closest to you. There is also an opportunity to meet more widely with other young people from across the West of Scotland at Equip West, held on the last Friday of every month. These events are great for young people coming together to worship, have fellowship, and get into the Bible. You can find out more at suscotland.org.uk/equipevents.
Holidays & Weekends
SU Residentials provide an incredibly fun opportunity to go away from home with friends, eat great food, explore the Bible in creative and engaging ways, and take part in exciting activities! In Lanarkshire, we have a Primary and a Secondary Weekend, which are greatly enjoyed by all. We long to see every child and young person exploring the Bible and so we have a bursary programme available to help with cost- please just get in touch! Have a look at the SU Holidays page for more information.
Prayer
At SU Scotland, ‘dependence on God’ is one of our values that dictates everything we do. We beseech the Lord to build our house, lest we build it in vain (Psalm 127). One of the ways that we live out this value is in prayer, and we are so thankful for the many faithful people who join us in praying for the ministry of SU in Lanarkshire.
We meet online monthly to pray for the children and young people in the region, and the work going on in schools, churches and residentials. If you would like to join us at these monthly prayer meetings, or if you would like to receive our monthly newsletter of the ministry going on in Lanarkshire, get in touch.
Alternatively, you can sign up to pray for your local school on our Pray for Schools page. Our aim is that every school in Lanarkshire, and Scotland, is covered in prayer. By signing up you can opt to be linked with others praying for this school or can let us know that someone is remembering this school in prayer.
Local Ministry Hubs
A key way in which we are looking to expand our ministry in local schools is through our termly Local Ministry Hubs, where people meet to pray for the nearby schools in their High School learning community. Our prayer is that these meeting will bring meaningful Christian contact to every school in Lanarkshire. To find out more about your local ministry hub, register here.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about the exciting ministry happening throughout Lanarkshire. We would love you to become part of Team Lanarkshire, and the wider SU family. If you can support the work by praying, giving, or volunteering then please do get in contact. Or, if you have any thoughts on what you’ve read, reach out! I’d be delighted to hear from you.
