Hi! I'm Lynne and Scripture Union Scotland has played a huge part in my life since my first camp in 1993 at Dunbar and it was at SU camp that I became a Christian at the age of 15. I am married to Peter and we have four children. It is so rewarding to see them having their own faith journeys and adventures through SU camps, SU Groups at school and with the friends they have made as a result. I consider it a privilege to live and work in the same region, to encourage volunteers, to partner with churches and to see children and young people discover the Bible for themselves and grow in faith.
Thank you for taking the time to find out about the work in Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde. It is the area where I grew up, I live and I love! With 124 schools in the area there is always something exciting happening. If you would like to support SU Scotland’s work in these areas, have any ideas or would like to get involved, please get in touch.
Below is a snap shot of what is going on. If you want to get a fuller picture, please register for my newsletter, which you can do on this page. There are so many opportunities to further the Good News and we always need more volunteers! If time is too limited to volunteer, you can support the region financially on this page too. The more people involved in volunteering and giving - the more we can do!
Schools
There are 124 schools within the region - that’s a lot of opportunities to explore the Bible!
SU Groups are an extra-curricular activity which run either during a lunch time or after school. They are run by volunteers and provide an opportunity for children and young people to explore the Bible in a safe environment. Everyone is welcome at an SU Group – from any faith background or none. It’s so exciting for us to see children showing an interest in God who have never encountered him before!
Currently we have lots of schools without an SU Group, so if you would like to hear about opportunities to serve in this way please contact me.
Local Ministry Hubs
Our vision at SU Scotland is to see every child and young person in Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus. There are over 700,000 children and young people in schools in Scotland which seems like such a huge number to reach. But yet, a key way we are looking to do this is through local ministry hubs around each high school cluster. There are approximately 360 high schools in Scotland, which definitely seems like a much more manageable number. Therefore we would love to see ministry hubs working with churches and other Christian organisations set up to bring meaningful Christian contact to the schools. These hubs would meet once or twice a term to pray for each school in the local high school cluster. If you’d like to be involved in a hub, you can register here.
Holidays and Weekends
SU Holidays are a brilliant place for young people in P5-S6 to have great fun, deepen relationships, enjoy delicious food, and explore the Bible. The SU Holidays website has the latest information including about the Regional Weekends taking place at Gowanbank in February (for P5-P7) and September (for S1-S6).
Prayer
Everything we do at SU Scotland begins with prayer. I love seeing God answering our prayers in far better ways than we could have planned!
‘God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us...’ (Ephesians 3:20-21, The Message)
I would love for you to pray for the area. There are various ways you can do this. If you would like to pray for a specific school then you could visit our Pray for Schools page where you can register and help us in our vision to have every school in Scotland prayed for.
Churches
It is an incredible privilege to have the support of so many churches in the region. There is such a sense of community as churches work together in partnership to reach the children and young people in their areas.
We would love to support you in any way we can. Please do get in touch if you would like support running a holiday club or mission, equipping youth leaders, organising a curriculum event for your church or if you would like me to visit and share about the work of SU Scotland.
Thank you for taking the time to read about some of the things that are happening in Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde. SU Scotland is one big family and I’d love for you to be part of it. If you can support the work by praying, giving or volunteering then please do get in contact.
