Thank you for reading about my Gap Year. I am excited about the year ahead and growing deeper in my faith while also gaining experience of working with others. I have been involved with SU in many different ways over the last 10 years, and as I grew older I came to appreciate the encouragement the leaders gave me to grow in my walk with God. This helped me to realise I too wanted to work with people in a Christian setting.
What excites me most about working with SU Scotland over the next year is meeting lots of new people and working with people of all different ages in a whole lot of different spaces. I look forward to helping create environments where they are able to encounter God for themselves and being able to encourage them further. As well as being super excited for the chance to take part in the international mission trip, which is something I have always wanted to do.
Through this SU Gap Year, I hope to gain valuable experience in community and church work, deepen my understanding of what it truly means to serve others, and develop practical skills in preparation for my university degree in Community Education and Youth Work next year.
In my spare time I love to watch TV while scrapbooking. I also love hanging out with friends, and swimming in the cold sea, even in the middle of winter!
I have chosen to do a gap:church placement with SU Scotland and Radiate, a youth and community project supported by three local Churches in Cathcart, Glasgow. My placement will involve youth groups, school clubs, activity days, a discipleship group, and taking the young people to events like Magnitude Worship nights. I will also have the opportunity to study for a qualification in Youth and Children’s Work. As well as this, there will be training and discipleship, wider SU events, camps and holiday clubs, and an international mission trip.
