Joy is new to the staff team but no stranger to Scripture Union, having attended SU camps as a young person and later returning as a volunteer leader. Having seen firsthand how these experiences can transform lives, she is passionate about helping young people discover God’s life-changing love.
As the Bridgeton Youth Project Development Worker Joy will be looking to establish new community and schools work in this area of the East End of Glasgow, which will develop into a new local youth project in the style of Junction 12 and Ferrywell Youth Projects.
For Joy, this role perfectly unites her heart for sharing the Gospel with her commitment to helping young people feel valued and make healthy choices. Deeply rooted in the local community, she has worshipped and volunteered as a youth leader in the East End for a decade and is excited to see how God will use her in this new chapter with SU Scotland.
Joy brings 18 years of experience in youth and community work, alongside a degree in Youth Work and Theology. She has spent nearly two decades supporting families facing challenging circumstances across six priority areas in Glasgow, collaborating with charities such as Barnardo’s Safer Choices, Glasgow City Mission, and COVEY. In these roles she supported young people who are care-experienced, navigating the asylum process, facing poverty, managing additional support needs and mental health challenges, or involved in risk-taking behaviours.
