Hello, I’m Eilidh! I’m delighted to be working as part of the Glasgow team for SU Scotland and seeing at how God is at work in this wonderful city.
Below is an overview of the work that goes on for SU Scotland in Glasgow. If you would like to know more, please do sign up to our termly newsletter. Please also feel free to contact me directly at any time using the contact details above.
There are plenty of ways you can be involved, whether through praying, volunteering or financial giving. If you would like to get involved in any way, I would love to hear from you and we would love to have you on board to help our mission of spreading the Gospel to the children and young people of Glasgow!
Schools Work
Schools work is a large part of SU Scotland’s mission. There are 49 high schools and 141 primary schools in Glasgow, and we would love to see children and young people in all of them have the opportunity to explore the Bible.
SU Groups
There are countless testimonies from SU Scotland volunteers who can say that having attended their school SU Group was the first time they heard the Good News of Jesus. We currently have a number active SU groups running in Glasgow schools, and we would love to see this number increase. Let’s pray that for this current generation as we equip volunteers to lead more SU Groups in more Glasgow schools!
Bible Alive & Workshops
SU Scotland deliver Christmas and Easter interactive presentations for senior primary pupils – these are greatly enjoyed by pupils and teachers alike. If you would like to be involved but have little time, these might be just the opportunity you’re looking for. We would love to see more workshops in more Glasgow schools in the very near future.
SU Scotland also offer opportunities to explore the Bible in class time. Bible Alive is an interactive and lively journey through the whole Bible in seven one hour sessions for P5-7. This programme receives great reviews from teachers and pupils. We would love to see this area of ministry grow within the SU Glasgow big picture.
Local Ministry Hubs
A key way we are expanding our ministries is through Local Ministry Hubs around each high school cluster in the region. What is a Local Ministry Hub? Here’s SU Scotland Director of Local Ministries, Zonya Bewick, explaining exactly the vision of a Local Ministry Hub. In short, this is local people, from local churches, praying for their local schools. If you’d like to be involved in a Glasgow local ministry hub, you can register here or send me an email.
Residentials
Residential holidays and weekends events provide a wonderful opportunity to get alongside children and young people for a longer span of time than is possible during school hours. These events allow young people to deepen relationships with each other and with God, with lots of time to explore the Bible and have fun together.
Regional weekends for Glasgow children in young people run in March for secondary aged pupils and in May for primary age. You can find more information about them here: Greater Glasgow Secondary Weekend & Glasgow Primary Weekend.
SU also offer an array of holidays in the Summer, Easter and October holidays. Some are multi-activity based and some are specialised activity based – you can find out more info here: SU Holidays.
Discipleship
Living out the Great Commission of being disciples who make disciples is a central part of our work and there are several ways we aim to live out this call.
Equip West
Equip West provides eight opportunities across the academic year for high school aged Christians to gather and grow in their faith. We tackle some of the more difficult topics which we know young people are facing with the hope that they learn to be more confident to shine for Jesus in their school. You can find out more at suscotland.org.uk/equip.
Equip Pupil Leader Training
We also provide training for S3-S6 pupils who would like to start or help with an existing SU group in their school. Here they get the time to learn and discuss what it looks like to lead an SU group, as we believe those within the school are the very best people to take on this role! More info can be found at suscotland.org.uk/equippupilleadertraining.
Young Leaders
As well as holidays and weekends, there are also training events for senior pupils and young adults to help them grow in their faith and leadership skills, whilst equipping them to live out their faith and share it with others. If you know of anyone interested in these opportunities, then take a look at the COmMISSION page.
Churches
Partnering with the local church is an important part of what we do. SU Scotland aims to work in partnership with churches to reach children and young people in their local communities. Without the prayers, financial and practical support of churches, much of what we do would not be possible. In return, if your church would appreciate help with children’s ministry training, holiday clubs or letting your young people know about our events, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you!
Prayer
Most importantly, prayer is central to all we do. Being upheld in prayer is a key encouragement to me in my role. If you would like to regularly pray for the work of SU in Glasgow, please do get in touch or sign up to our newsletter.
Our Pray for Schools page is one way of being joining the partnership of praying for Glasgow – here you can sign up to pray for a local school. Perhaps it’s one you have a link with through children in your family or teachers you know, or you live nearby. By signing up you can opt to be linked with others praying for this school, or simply let us know that someone is remembering this school in prayer as we aim to make every school a prayed for school.
You can find updates and stories of answered prayer as well as specific prayer requests in our termly newsletter.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page, I am so grateful for all of the support and prayer that goes into my work with SU Scotland in Glasgow. Please do feel free to get in contact with me at any point: eilidh.lockhart@suscotland.org.uk.
