Trying to get your teens into healthy online habits?
What if their screen time was a chance to meet with other Christians across Scotland, where they had fun, pursued their interests, and chatted about faith and the big questions they are wrestling with? SU Scotland’s online communities provide safe spaces for 13-18 year olds to do just that!
Our team of volunteers host events on ‘Discord’, a social media platform that allows young people to join an online community by video call so they can safely chat, text and post to others in the community. The SU Scotland Discord platform is operated securely, and content is fully moderated by our team. We run the following events during term time:
Bible Study (S4-S6): Mondays 7pm to 9pm
Creative Writing (13-S6): Fortnightly on Thursdays 7.30pm to 9pm
Music/Song Writing (13-S6): Fortnightly on Thursdays 7.30pm to 9pm
Tabletop (Board/Card) Gaming (13-S6): Fortnightly on Tuesdays 7.30pm to 9pm
Tabletop (RPG) Gaming (13-S6): Fortnightly on Thursdays 7.30pm to 9pm
Video Gaming (13-S6): Tuesdays and Thursdays 7pm to 8.30pm
Plus ad-hoc drop-in voice chats in the after-school hours.
All our groups involve exploring the Bible and having informal faith conversations. Young people are also free to post and chat any time while the community is open, not just during the group sessions.
Our Digital Youth Lead, Andrew Stothard said:
“We have found that young people feel comfortable to ask all sorts of faith-based questions in our online communities, and to invite their friends along too. We have lots of opportunity contact with young people on a weekly basis, which builds the trust and community-feeling needed to have these kinds of conversations.”
We require parental consent for young people to join our online community and be part of the conversation. Sign up today by filling in a consent form and we will send you the link for your young person to join our online community. Still unsure? You can read our parent’s FAQ to find out more.
