  4. GO Conference

GO Conference took place at Lendrick Muir this year from 10-13 of October.  This is SU Scotland’s nationwide youth conference for S4–S6 learners who are eager to grow in their faith and explore how the Bible shapes every part of life - at home, at school, and in friendships.  This year was our new Young Leaders Development Lead, Alan Scott’s, first GO Conference which he co-led with Jackie Ringan and Zonya Bewick.  Alan said:

“It was an amazing experience. Getting the chance to both lead and learn more about the event at the same time was really special. The demand for the conference this year was mind-blowing, with 114 young people attending and many others showing interest- giving an insight into what God is doing in and through this age group.”

Cheri Young led teaching sessions on the first four chapters of the book of Joshua, which impacted both the young people and the team. There were many great discussions during group times, where the young people could unpack parts of the teaching that stood out to them and ask any questions they had.

One of the young people who attended, Gracie Hamill, said:

“I found the teachings from Joshua reinforced how faithful God is, especially in tough situations.”

As well as the main teaching sessions, the young people could take part in a wide variety of seminars, which were both practical and grounded in Scripture. At these events, young people brought questions they were wrestling with. Alan Scott said:

“The questions being asked were a real indicator to me of how serious this group of young people are about their faith and how keen they are to understand God’s view on things. It’s so exciting to be part of helping develop and grow young leaders within SU Scotland, because we are living in a time like no other - and these young people are the ones who are going to take the gospel to places and people it has never reached before.”

Gracie Hamill found the GO Conference to be somewhere she could meet other people her age who were serious about their faith.  She particularly enjoyed the prayer walk where she was put into a small group who then walked around the grounds of Lendrick Muir discussing their faith and praying for one another.  She said:

“I would 100% recommend GO Conference as I have made great friends here.  It can be a bit scary at first as it is quite senior, but it is great for if you want a more mature setting where you can dig deeper into the Bible and talk about what it is like to have faith in school.”

Participants in the GO Conference were encouraged to sign up for SU Scotland’s COmMISSION leadership programme for 16-23 year olds. Bookings are now live. Find out more at: COmMISSION | Scripture Union Scotland.
