Could you partner with us on Motiv8 Events?
Motiv8 Holidays and Weekends are adapted versions of our mainstream SU Holidays and Weekends, designed specifically for children and young people from priority communities. Heavily subsidised through the Holiday Sponsorship Fund, they offer extra support and more relaxed boundaries, such as realistic expectations, more flexible programmes and later morning start times and bedtimes. We believe that residentials transform lives and want all children and young people to grow in friendship and faith in an environment suited to them.
Ministry at the Margins Lead, Tim Raynes, said:
“We want all children and young people to have the opportunity to take part in fun, adventurous activities, enjoy great food with good friends and a caring team, and crucially, to explore the Bible and respond to the significance of Jesus.”
Unlike other SU Holidays, parents cannot book directly. Children and young people are referred through partnering local youth projects or local churches who connect regularly with the young people, with someone from this organisation attending with the young people.
We are actively looking for more churches or youth projects to partner with us so more children and young people can experience a Motiv8 events. If your organisation works with children and young people in a priority community and who may benefit from a Motiv8 Holiday or Weekend, please contact Tim Raynes, on 0141 352 7635 or at tim.raynes@suscotland.org.uk.
We are also looking for more volunteers specifically for Motiv8 Holidays. A high ratio of team to young people is needed, ensuring the best support possible for the children and young people. We are keen for volunteers to have experience of working with children and young people living life at the margins, but this is not essential. If you are interested in volunteering at a Motiv8 Holiday or weekend, and making a difference in a child’s life who would not normally get opportunities like this, visit www.suholidays.co.uk/volunteer.
Charlotte, who volunteered at a Motiv8 weekend for the first time recently, said:
"It was rewarding to witness the young people getting the opportunity to experience the outdoor activities and create memories that they will always hold on to. Even more rewarding was seeing the impact of getting the chance to share the love of Jesus Christ with the young people throughout the weekend. The residential was busy and dynamic but there was a very supportive team with a culture of helping and encouraging each other. I came away from the came encouraged from the time serving at as a group leader, and I'm already looking forward to the next one!"
Young people commented “I felt included”, and “it was so much fun because of the leaders”. Seventeen of the 20 young people said they felt closer to God as a result of the weekend.
