Big Plans for Lendrick Muir
We are excited to announce that a large-scale development project is planned to commence later this year at the largest of our well-loved residential activity centres, Lendrick Muir. Since opening its doors in 1999, Lendrick Muir has grown into a vibrant hub welcoming over 11,000 visitors every year. From school residentials to holidays and weekends, training events and the Magnitude festival, Lendrick Muir is alive with activity almost all year round.
However, after 25 years of intensive usage, creatively navigating quirks and challenges, parts of the Lendrick Muir building need replacement and upgrade to be fit-for-purpose. Expectations of groups, and the needs of young people have changed. To keep welcoming the next generation, we need to act.
Plans involve removing the section of the building known as ‘Glendevon’, remodelling sections of the main house, and creating a modern, connected space. The overall capacity will increase to benefit an additional 2,000 children and young people each year. This re-development will deliver a step-change in provision, creating a contemporary, sustainable, inclusive building that meets the needs of guests and staff alike, whilst enhancing the beauty of the centre campus. We are approaching trusts and foundations with applications for funding, and a more public appeal is being launched in a few months' time.
SU Scotland’s Chief Executive Officer, Robin MacLellan said:
“This is a really exciting time for SU Scotland. There has been lots of discussion and press coverage about a growing spiritual hunger among children and young people, so the opportunity to substantially expand our capacity at Lendrick Muir, and make a step-change to what we can offer the children and young people of Scotland, could not be more timely. Last month, we saw the Schools (Residential Outdoor Education) (Scotland) Bill passed in the Scottish Parliament. This landmark legislation will mean that all school pupils will be given the opportunity of an outdoor education residential, another clear indicator of the need to expand our provision. We have carefully considered this project over many months and feel now is the time to make this ambitious, bold move to be able to welcome more of Scotland’s children and young people, encouraging them to explore the Bible and respond to the significance of Jesus.”
Work is planned to begin in Autumn 2026, with the Glendevon Unit closing in mid-October. The main building will continue welcoming guests throughout the estimated 15-month build, and we’re aiming to unveil the new space in early 2028.
This is more than bricks and mortar. We are creating a home for life-changing experiences for generations to come. We would love you to join us as we step into this exciting new chapter.
