Volunteering Opportunities | Lendrick Muir
Are you looking to expand your skills and grow in a vibrant team setting? Join us at Lendrick Muir for a voluntary placement and be part of our mission to inspire children and young people.
Who are we?
Scripture Union Scotland exists to see every child and young person in Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus. As a Christian charity, we have around 120 staff and 2,500 volunteers. For over 25 years Lendrick Muir Residential Outdoor Activity Centre has hosted children and young people from Schools, churches, SU Holidays and uniformed organisations. With 166 beds, 8 public rooms, 5 dining rooms, 3 kitchens and a choice of catering options, Lendrick Muir requires a large team of dedicated and motivated staff and volunteers to run effectively.
What might I be doing?
Lendrick Muir relies on volunteers to serve guests and keep the Centre running to the high standard visitors deserve. Monday to Friday, during term time, we host Primary and Secondary pupils on their school residential and at weekends our three units are used by SU groups, and other children’s and youth organisations.
There are many ways that you can contribute to the life of the Centre and we will work with you to see that your skills are best used. All relevant training is provided. Our Catering, House, Facilities and Activities teams all benefit from volunteer input.
While we’re grateful for any time a volunteer can give, it’s great for our planning if volunteers are able to commit to regular days. Whatever your availability, we would love to hear from you to chat through the opportunities.
Catering Team
As part of the Catering team, you will work with Centre staff and our existing volunteers to prepare food, serve guests, and clean and maintain the kitchens. April – June is a particularly busy season for Schools and we can be serving from three different dining rooms simultaneously. We welcome groups all year round and occasionally cater for weekend groups too, preparing lunches and the evening meal on the Saturday.
House Team
As part of the House team, you will work with Centre staff and our existing volunteers to reset and clean rooms and prepare for the incoming guests. We call this a turnaround. We host a range of groups over the weekend and School residentials during the week. Many weeks in our peak season (April-June) we have one or two mid-week turnarounds as well as the usual Monday and Friday – that’s a lot of laundry to be washed, folded, and placed on beds, and a lot of floors to vacuum and toilets to clean! During the summer holidays we’re blessed to host SU Holidays, so Saturdays in July and August are also very busy for the House team.
