WHO WE ARE
Scripture Union Scotland is a national charity, with 140 staff and 2,500 volunteers. Our vision is to see every child and young person of Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus.
We are seeking a full-time Edinburgh Schools Worker to join our Local Ministries Team to develop SU Scotland’s ministry within North Edinburgh, working alongside a team of Regional Workers. This is as part of the Local Ministries’ East Team.
PURPOSE
To fulfil the vision and values of SU Scotland through the development of the schools’ work within North Edinburgh, encouraging children and young people to explore the Bible and respond to the significance of Jesus and helping them to grow in Christian maturity.
Local Ministries staff are expected to demonstrate continual reliance on God through active participation and leadership of prayer and Bible teaching as required and consistently demonstrate Christlikeness in attitude towards others and in behaviour at work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- To contribute to and implement an integrated ministry plan for North Edinburgh, for 2024-2027, focused on Leith, Drummond and Trinity Hubs that reflects the SU Scotland vision, values and priorities.
- To bring together local ministry hubs, building relationships with churches, schools, young people and potential volunteers as well as developing those existing relationships to help build our schools’ ministry
- To grow involvement in our residential work regionally and nationally, in missions and holiday clubs
- To develop ministry partnership for this post, for prayer and financial support
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The successful applicant will have experience of schools' work and Christian ministry with children and/or young people; someone who has led teams of volunteers and is a confident communicator of Biblical truth with a wide range of young people. You should be based in/near Edinburgh and be prepared to support SU Scotland’s ministry in all parts of the region.
For this post, it is important that you able to demonstrate a commitment to SU Scotland’s ethos, working principles and vision. It is also an Occupational Requirement (Equality Act - part 1, schedule 9), that the post-holder is a committed Christian.
The appointment will be subject to a satisfactory PVG Scheme Disclosure.
