Children & Youth Worker

  4. Children’s & Youth Worker | Abernethy Parish Church
  • Location: Abernethy Parish Church, Nethy Bridge, Inverness-shire, PH25 3DQ
  • Contract: Part Time, 20 hours per week 
  • Salary: Starting at £14.50 per hour 
  • Closing Date: 31st July 2026 
  • Start date: 1st September 2026 

About the Church

Our aim is to be a lively Christ-centred Church, where people of all ages can worship, serve, grow in faith and find a warm welcome. We currently have 44 children and young people attending our Sunday morning and mid-week groups, led by a dedicated team of 18 volunteers. Set in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park we enjoy close links with Abernethy Trust outdoor centre whose team plays an active part in the life of the Church, helping to lead services and support our children’s and youth ministries. 

Key Roles

  • To lead and develop the children and youth work ministries within the Abernethy Parish Church family and wider community, with a focus on discipleship, relationship building scripturally grounded learning.
  • Foster a strong and pastoral and discipleship presence amongst the children and young people.
  • Recruit, train and coordinate volunteer leaders serving within those ministries. 

Essential Requirements 

  • A passion for sharing the gospel and seeing young people grow in their love for Jesus.
  • Experience working in Children and Youth ministry.
  • An understanding of current safeguarding, health and safety practices.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • It is a genuine occupational requirement that the holder of this post is a practising Christian whose lifestyle is consistent with the values and doctrine of the Christian faith.
  • As part of our commitment to safeguarding, the successful applicant will be required to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Scheme and the appointment will be subject to a satisfactory PVG Scheme Disclosure. 

Desirable Requirements

  • A youth work or theology qualification. 
  • Experience of working with volunteers in a church or similar context.
