  4. Christmas Appeal 2025

Will you help light up a young life today?

“I’m so grateful to God for bringing hope into my life. For turning my darkness into light. Please consider giving to SU this Christmas so that other children that might not have any other way of finding out about Jesus can have the same chance I did.” Ashley

Can you remember a time when you were lost in the dark? Maybe it was driving down an unfamiliar road at night, getting stuck in a room and you couldn’t find a way out, or being caught in the sudden silence of a power cut. In that moment, the darkness felt overwhelming.

Anxiety. Loneliness. Fear. Not knowing where to turn. You struggled to find your way, wondering when - and how - the light would return.

For many young people across Scotland today, life feels like that. A constant struggle in the dark.  Anxiety. Loneliness. Fear. Not knowing where to turn.

Your gift today could help a young person hear about Jesus-maybe for the very first time.

Ashley was a young person stuck in the dark. Growing up, she had no Christian influence in her life; her family didn’t know God and neither did any of her friends. Her early years were dark, filled with loneliness and worry, with no one to turn to. Homelife was difficult, as she witnessed alcohol abuse and domestic violence. She often felt forgotten and that she had to stay silent. If there was a God, did he even care?

Now think back to your own experience of being lost in the dark. How did it feel when the light finally came? How bright that light seemed! How powerful! And how those feelings of fear and isolation gave way to relief, joy, calm - and the deep comfort of being found.

At Scripture Union (SU) Scotland, we want more children and young people to experience that moment. To discover the light that never fades. To know the One who says, “I am the light of the world.”

And you can be the one who helps young people like Ashley find the light of Jesus. Your gift today could be the turning point in a young person’s life - the moment they discover the light of Jesus and know they are not alone.

This Christmas, please join us in lighting up Scotland one young life at a time. We simply can’t do it without your help. From SU Holidays to taking the real Christmas story into schools, you can help us bring the good news of Jesus to children and young people across Scotland. You can help young people see that even in their darkest moments, they are not alone. There is a light that shines in the darkness - and the darkness cannot overcome it.

This Christmas, could you help bring that light to a young person? Because when one young person finds the light of Jesus, everything changes.

You will be pleased to hear that Ashley’s story didn’t end there. God had a plan. And you can read on here to find out how God has transformed her life from darkness to light. To light up a young life like Ashley’s today, donate below.
