A Back to School with God Sunday church service is a fantastic way to pray for and support your young people and school staff at the start of a new school year. It is an excellent bridge between church and school, and an encouragement to Christian pupils and staff to consider the fact that God is not confined to church, but goes with them to school.

What is Back to School with God Sunday?

A wide variety of churches, both large and small, some with few children and others with many, mark the start of a new academic year by holding a Back to School with God Sunday service.

It aims to:

  • To raise awareness of prayer for schools in general and the need for prayer for local schools in particular;
  • To support and encourage Christian pupils and staff in their daily life at school, and as part of this, to let them know they are valued and prayed for by the local church;
  • To challenge Christian pupils and staff to live out their faith in the school environment, and in particular to support any Christian witness in their school.

All denominations have used our resources, and not just in the UK but across the world too. Many churches use the service as an outreach to school staff, inviting them along. Others involve children and young people in leading the service, and particularly in praying for their schools.

2017 THEME AND RESOURCES – BE WISE!

All the resources you need to hold a Back to School with God Sunday service are available to download FREE when you register your service. Resources include an all-age service with accompanying PowerPoint slides, prayers, and activities that will engage children and reinforce the theme. Supporting resources include children's activities which can be used in Sunday School or in church at a future date, plus publicity material such as posters and flyers which can be distributed in the local community.

Our 2017 resources unpack the Bible story of Solomon in 1 Kings 3:1-15. Solomon could have asked God for anything he wanted, but he asked for wisdom. God was pleased with his request, and made him the wisest king who ever lived. Explore the Bible with us to discover how Solomon is...

  • A WISE KING who KNOWS GOD
  • A WISE KING who KNOWS HIMSELF
  • A WISE KING who PLEASES GOD

...and that the first step of wisdom, particularly in life at school, is acknowledging we need God’s help to be wise!

Register your church's participation in order to access the downloads. If you want to check out last year's service outline to preview what we offer, you can download the 2016 all-age service on this page.
