Regional Worker, Glasgow
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to have a look at the work going on in Glasgow – a city famous for its stunning architecture, rich history and the fact that it only has two seasons (July and Winter)…
With 138 primary schools and 30 secondary schools, there are countless opportunities for SU to be at work in Glasgow. However, with only a handful of staff (and in the absence of a cloning device), we rely heavily on volunteers to make the most of these great opportunities! Could you (yes, YOU) think about being involved? Please take a look at the work that goes on and have a think as to whether you, someone you know, or your church could get involved in helping SU to reach the children and young people of Glasgow with the good news of Jesus.
There are SU Groups currently running in many schools throughout Glasgow and we are indebted to all the volunteers who help run them week by week.
There are still gaps where it would be great to see new SU Groups – particularly for schools that are keen to have such a group but currently have no-one to lead or assist with it.
I’d be delighted to hear from you:
- if you want to know if there is currently a group in your local school;
- if you are interested in starting a group in your local school;
- if you are interested in finding out more about being part of an existing team;
One of my aims is to resource the local church in order that they might reach the children and young people in their own communities. Please get in touch if you would like support in equipping youth leaders, running a holiday club or mission, organising a curricular event for your local school (such as ‘Easter Code’) or if you would like your youth group invited to our events.
Additionally, for creative, practical, and realistic ways in which your congregation can support their local school, please visit our Serve Your Local School website.
Discipling young people is a crucial part of SU Scotland's ministry and our COmMISSION programme aims to do this with various events during the year. Being part of the COmMISSION programme will increase their knowledge of the Bible, help them grow in confidence in their faith, show them some really practical ways of playing a positive role on a team and introduce them to a peer group of Christian young people who will encourage them in their walk with Jesus. Please consider if you have any young people in your church who would benefit from this training.
Weekends & Holidays
Throughout the year, I am involved in taking children and young people away on residential weekends and holidays. Residentials are a brilliant opportunity to develop relationships, provide Bible teaching and have fun! Find out more on the SU Holidays website, or get in touch to request holiday brochures and a DVD to promote the holidays at your church. If you'd be interested in volunteering at a residential event then I'd love to hear from you!
Congratulations, you made it to the bottom of the page!
As you will have gathered, I'd love to help you volunteer with SU in any way that might suit you; whether that's helping at a holiday, mission or weekend, running an SU Group in your local school, helping with site maintenance, driving the minibus, being a photographer, representing SU Scotland at events and festivals, using your business skills in an advisory role or helping in the office with administration.
If you are interested in any of these opportunities or if you feel I can be a resource to you, your school or church in anyway, please do get in touch.
Thank you very much for visiting my page and do drop by again!
