gap:church is one of the ways SU Scotland wants to say “yes” to the church in Scotland.
Our gap year programme aims to encourage and enable those who want to discover their full potential to serve Scotland’s mission field. If we can help support you as you disciple young people within the context of your congregation then we want to do so.
There are two ways that these partnerships can come about.
- If you have a senior pupil, graduating student or equivalent who blesses your congregation but you feel unable to offer a full internship programme to if they were to stay on, let us help you. They can serve the church, learn on the job and reach your community. We can train, mentor and support them along the way and help form or support an ongoing partnership between the church and your local schools.
- If you feel that your church would be a great context for one of our full year volunteers to serve and learn then please contact us about the potential for placing one of our applicants with you.
These placements can be full time (equivalent to 4.5 days per week, with a half day for study) or time can potentially be shared with a regional worker or associated local trust.
This would be a great option for anyone considering a calling to church ministry of any kind but looking for experience and space to ask big questions about what that might look like.
Currently we have a placement available at Kirkliston Community Church, who are looking for someone to develop their youth work in a range of exciting ways (see the placements section of the gap year page for a job description) within their rapidly growing congregation. There are also a range of other opportunities for someone who would be interested in this kind of year - don't be shy about dropping us a line to find out more!
