This July we, as a family, were back in Whiting Bay on the Isle of Arran. We’d been looking forward to getting back there and picking up the work we’d been involved in over the past two years - and when we got there it was great!
The Bible teaching for the mission this year came from John’s gospel and the theme verse was John 20:31 - "But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." As we looked at what is written in that book we saw and taught who Jesus is and how each one of us needs to believe in order that we might have life.
One encouragement to us was a boy who we knew from previous years who told his group leader that he loved coming along to the mission for the games and activities. He thought hearing about Jesus was reasonably interesting but that he would certainly not want to follow him. As the fortnight progressed he got more and more into the group discussion, at the start of the second week he bought a Bible from the bookstall - and began to read it. He brought it along to each session, wanted to follow wherever we were reading and also showed us what he was starting to read at home too. Please pray for him, and for others like him who heard the good news. Pray that they would believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that by believing they would have life in his name. As we look ahead to the work we do in Whiting Bay, there are decisions to be made - team accommodation is uncertain and we’d like to work with the youngsters from Whiting Bay, many of whom are local to the village, during the year before next summer’s mission. There is a lot of work to be done so please pray about the practicalities of all if this.
