We officially started our new gap year programme on 19th August with 2 weeks of training up at Alltnacriche, near Aviemore. We had a great 2 weeks together learning about how to have a godly character from some Old Testament characters. We also had a great time doing some team building (in other words discovering how competitive everyone is and eating chocolate) and doing some practical training in how to work with children and young people in different settings. Alltnacriche was a beautiful place for this and we were blessed with fantastic weather for the whole time we were there.
Writing the new gap:engage study material was a daunting prospect but it was a challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed. This term our gap year participants are reading Dig Deeper by Nigel Beynon and Andrew Sach as well as There Are No Strong People by Jeff Lucas. The gap:engage programme is designed to help them to work through these books and grow in knowledge and understanding of the Bible. They are also learning how to apply what they are learning to their own lives as they learn more about the character of God and the life that we've been called to. They are encouraged to take time to examine their own lives and see what areas need to change. It is a challenging programme for them, but I pray that God will really use it to grow and develop character in each of them this year.
