As the term came to a close at Sanderson's Wynd Primary in Tranent, East Lothian SU took a team of 26 in to lead a Christian Focus Day for the whole school. To fit in with the school's Olympics topic, we started with an opening ceremony where pupils were encouraged to think about the need to work together to make it to the Olympic Games. We thought about the Bible referring to life as a race, but we have a cloud of witnesses to cheer us on. The team then split into the 13 different classes where each year group looked at one of the Paralympic and Olympic themes - determination, friendship, equality, respect, courage, excellence and inspiration.
We looked at stories from the Bible on each theme, Olympians who had showed that value, and then considered how we could show these values in our lives. At our closing ceremony, each class reported back on what they had learnt that day. There was a mix of discussions, storytelling, quizzes, crafts, music, etc as pupils engaged with the Bible and Christianity as part of the whole curriculum. A huge thanks goes to the school for asking us, the children for taking part, and to the team who made it a really positive day.
