Angie Johnstone describes her first experience of volunteering with SU Scotland at a Perth, Kinross & Fife Primary Weekend back in May. "I ventured on an SU camp for the first time along with my three children. None of us had been to an SU camp before but we had heard rave reviews and we were all keen to go see what it was like. We had a whale of a time! The centre was so well equipped, all of the staff and helpers were really friendly and approachable and the food was amazing. I went expecting to feel hungry most of the weekend but in reality I was totally stuffed every day!
The activities were all really well planned and there was always something for everyone to do. Not one minute was free for anyone to feel remotely homesick. The together sessions were great fun and it was lovely to see the children praising God so openly and enthusiastically. I know all of my children learned loads about God through the stories, the chats and the songs. I also really enjoyed the early morning leaders' meetings and quiet reflection time as this provided some protected time to hear God speaking to us and to focus on what He was saying to each of us through our work with the children. We had a truly fantastic time and we can't wait until next year! We all made new friends, connected with God and tried some new activities which is exactly what we were hoping the weekend would provide. If you are considering trying an SU weekend then all I can say is JUST DO IT!"
