We know how much our young people love Easter camps, but they don't just run here in Scotland. Vera, who heads up SU in St Petersburg, Russia, ran a camp too. She tells us a little about it...

Shrovetide Camp1

Before Easter Russian Christians observe a Lenten fast for 40 days. The week before the fast Shrovetide is celebrated with a carnival atmosphere. During the week people make pancakes and visit friends – according to tradition you have to give all your friends pancakes to eat. We decided this year to have a Shrovetide family camp. It was still winter with snow on the ground, but it was not so cold and we could spend more time outdoors. It was amazing reading the Bible with children and parents. We even ate outside under our veranda at minus 5! But the children and parents were all delighted and nobody got ill...
