Over the past month we have had our Ayrshire day camps. Amazingly we were able to have these in person just before tier 4 came into play! Over the two Saturdays we had 21 young people from s1-6 come along. It was an amazing day filled with bushcraft, breadmaking, archery, a mini-Olympics and Bible engagement.

Throughout the day we made a video diary of the activities taking place and the young people were more than happy to share about their favourite part of the day. You can view the video by clicking here.

One of the young people came forward and shared with us about how lockdown had affected them. They said they were struggling with feeling isolated and their mental health was poor. They continued and said that they were struggling with their faith because their church no longer has a youth group. This day camp really helped this young person, as they were able to socialise again.

The most common feedback was that everyone just enjoyed getting back to some normality and being able to see their friends and do fun activities. Both the leaders and young people said it was amazing to be back doing SU events and they cannot wait to do more! Stories like these remind us of the importance of outdoor centres and just being face to face with the young people again
