Scripture Union Scotland have a vacancy for a Lead Instructor, based at our 58 bed activity centre at Alltnacriche, just outside Aviemore.

What’s the role?

We are looking for an experienced outdoor instructor who is passionate about creating opportunities for young people to experience the Christian Faith in the outdoors. This is a leadership role within a small delivery team, and in addition to delivering activities it will involve line management, supervision, training and development.  See the role outline and job description for more detailed information.

Who are Scripture Union?

Scripture Union Scotland is a registered charity that aims to help all of Scotland’s children and young people explore the significance of Jesus Christ for their lives. Alltnacriche supports SU Scotland’s strategy, facilitating residential events that help and enable young people in Scotland to explore the Christian faith.

What do we do at Alltnacriche?

At Alltnacriche we host a variety of different groups through a busy season, usually from late February through to November. These groups range from fully catered school residentials through to self-catered weekends and summer holiday groups. We regularly deliver a programme of adventurous activities to our guests, providing them with opportunities to explore the Christian faith in the outdoors in a way that fits with the aims of their visit.

How do I fit in?

You will work closely with the Chief Instructor to enable the Alltnacriche team to safely deliver a wide range of activities. As well as delivering activities yourself, you will line manage trainee and volunteer instructors.  In conjunction with the Chief Instructor you will supervise and monitor the quality of activity sessions, be involved in planning and delivering staff training and maintenance, and contribute to the development of activities.  There are opportunities to explore the Christian faith with young people, other times we are facilitating others to do that.

What’s it like?

From February to November, we deliver activities to different groups Monday to Saturday. In term time we have schools residentials during the week, Friday afterschool clubs for local children as well as various weekend groups.  During school holidays we host SU Holidays events at Alltnacriche and support some expeditions.  December and January allow time for larger maintenance tasks and training.
