Strictly Come Praying

SCPtitle

Strictly Come Praying is over for another year!  In 2012 our theme was "Speak, Lord, your servant is listening" from 1 Samuel 3:9.  At both events Tara Devlin of Tearfund spoke from the Bible and challenged us to consider how Samuel - and people today - have listened to and obeyed God.  She left us to consider three questions: Are we listening? Are we ready? Are we willing?

Here are some of the comments we have received.  If you were there - send us yours!

From leaders:

"Good, positive event.  An encouragement for our youngsters that there are others out there!"

"It was a really easy event to take young folk along to; I didn't have to worry about what they were up to and after a bit of prompting the young folk were happy to explore themselves.  The level of organisation, thought, preparation and sheer amount of stewards meant it was an utterly stress-free day for the leaders who came along. Lovely!"

"Thank you for organising SCP!  Prayer is so vital, and I hope this event has helped my youth group to understand how important it is.  Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and my youth said they had a good time."

"The speaker was clear, concise and encouraged young people to think for themselves."

From young people:

"I really enjoyed it and the food was fab."

"I learned to pray out loud for the first time."

"It was amazing.  I loved it!"

"Why is there only one a year?"

"This is good - can I come back again next year?"

If you are aged S5 or S6 at school and live within travelling distance of Glasgow, you are invited to help plan next year's event!  Interested?  Email pray@suscotland.org.uk if you would like to get involved.

Building on Strictly Come Praying - what now?

Strictly Come Praying is awesome, but it only happens once a year! We would love you to keep on praying for your friends, family and school; not just at Strictly, but all year round.  Here are some ideas:

  • Organise your own "mini Strictly".
  • Speak to other youth groups in your town or area and see if they are interested in joining with you.
  • Arrange a planning group.
  • Choose a date and central location.
  • Book a local praise band and speaker.
  • Have a time of worship and pray out prayers of thanksgiving and praise.
  • Share a testimony.
  • Pray in small groups.
  • Organise "prayer stations" similar to those you have seen at Strictly.
  • Come back together to worship and finish off.
  • Start a pupil prayer group at your school

If you do hold a Mini Strictly Come Praying, please let me know (email Elizabeth at pray@suscotland.org.uk).

Strictly Come Praying is organised by SU Scotland and Firestarters UK in partnership with local youth workers, Lydia Fellowship and Pray for Scotland.
