Gift Aid bonus ends on 5 April

In common with all charities, Scripture Union Scotland will be impacted by the changes to the Gift Aid scheme, taking effect from 6 April 2011.

Currently, charities are able to claim back UK tax paid on money donated. So, if a basic rate taxpayer gives £1 to a charity, it receives that pound and the 25 pence tax (that the donor paid) from the government, plus an additional 3 pence "transitional relief".

This "transitional relief" has been supported by the government since 2008 (when income tax rates were cut), but the withdrawal of this relief will result in a proportional loss of income for Scripture Union Scotland.

The relief will be withdrawn on 5 April 2011, so if you are planning to donate to Scripture Union Scotland, doing so before this date will generate a greater benefit to the charity!

In light of this change, if you would like to re-assess your regular giving, a downloadable Standing Order mandate is available here.
