Associate Trust wins Youth Programme of the year

Dumfries and Galloway council have awarded the Stewartry Churches Youth Initiative (SCYI) with the trophy for Best Youth Project Programme of the Year 2011.

The council recently celebrated the achievements and contributions that have been made to Stewartry life by a wide range of learners, community activists and volunteers over the past year.

The categories were: Young Achiever of the Year, Community Group of the Year, Safe and Secure, Youth Project Programme of the Year, Making the Locality Healthier, Environmental, Community Event of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Special Recognition.

The finalist in each category received certificates infront of a range of special guests including the local Deputy Chief Constable, the Director of Education and the Dumfries and Galloway Council Convener.

Stella Gilette, SCYI worker, comments "I felt very honoured to receive the award and I was extremely happy for the SCYI volunteer trust team, who have given up their time over the years in the hope of new groups and growth within the Stewartry schools. I thank God for opening so many doors for us. Hebrews ch11v6 says 'Without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.' The trophy was God's reward to us."

The Stewartry Churches Youth Initiative, an Associate Trust of SU Scotland, was delighted to receive the award for the Best Youth Project Programme of the year.
