History
An amazing opportunity…
In 1986, as Scripture Union Scotland searched for a new campsite, the prospect of a house purchase arose “out of the blue”. The sudden availability of Stephen & Joy Anderson’s 17 acre home – independently valued at £96,000 (at 2008 values, £414,000) – fired the imagination of supporters.
A great response…
It took less than one year to raise the funds. From the teenager who gave the first £2 to generous five figure gifts from individuals and Trusts; from the tireless endeavour of Melville Paton to a Highlands & Islands Development Loan (negotiated down from 13% to 8%!) the purchase was made and renovations began.
A new area of ministry was born…
Richard & Katherine Scarffe arrived in September 1988 to take on the daunting task of Centre Management, and holiday ministry in the north of Scotland was secured. Owning our own residential centre was just the start – since then, numerous initiatives have emerged at Alltnacriche to the glory of God.
…which continues to develop…
For over 20 years the Centre has seen change after change, enhancing the holiday and school break experience for thousands of young people. In order to continue to meet the growing ministry opportunities and develop further initiatives, we now need to focus on appropriate accommodation for those who work at Alltnacriche.
