Strategic Priorities
Our key priorities
The following are SU Scotland's key strategic priorities:
- Stimulate widespread prayer for the children and young people of Scotland
- Establish a 'vibrant' witness in every school
- Increase the numbers who have a residential experience with SU
- Sustain agreed number of Holiday Club / Mission events and initiate new Holiday Clubs / Missions
- Disciple and train young people who can in turn disciple others
- Develop a dynamic and relevant website for young people
Foundations for the strategy
- Volunteers
Thank you to all the volunteers without whom our strategy would not be viable.
Registered volunteers number around 1900 and contributed 240,500 hours of service during 2007/2008.
Staff
We have around 100 staff in SU Scotland but staff vacancies remain which are making it difficult for us to grasp ministry opportunities and putting extra strain on fulfilling logistical and charity requirements
2. Property
The development of our Centres is core to the fulfilment of our priorities. We need to develop both capacity and quality whilst continuing to improve activities provision.
Additional staff housing at Alltnacriche is a priority. We give thanks for the progress made possible by funding so far of £498,000 from individuals, Trusts and grants towards the Lendrick Muir Development Project.
3. Funding
We are very thankful for the generosity of faithful supporters of SU Scotland. We need to broaden the base of our support, however, if we are to fund our team of Regional workers and maintain our commitment to fulfilling our charitable, Child Protection and employment obligations to the highest standards.
Key Questions
SU Scotland has a role to play in contributing to some of the huge challenges facing the church in Scotland. We are attempting to encourage dialogue and stimulate thinking on some of these, amongst them:
- How can we most effectively reach the 25-30% of children and young people disadvantaged by poverty?
- How can children and young people's contribution to the church be more widely recognised and embraced?
- How can we help children and young people to effectively engage with the Bible?
