Serve Your Local School Appeal

Appeal Update
We are delighted to announce the Secondment of Kathryn Campbell to the role of SYLS Coordinator. Kathryn comes with a wealth of experience as a schoolsworker, and is continuing to work part-time with the Wheel Trust in the west-end of Glasgow. We look forward to Kathryn helping us to develop the SYLS project, and hope to be able to say more here soon!
A partnership of four charities (SU Scotland - taking the lead role, Church of Scotland, CARE for Scotland and the Baptist Union of Scotland) has been established, with the aim of fostering other partnerships among local churches and youth work agencies. A National Steering Group is also being formed to provide oversight for the initiative, and consultations are taking place with various interested groups.
We look forward to keeping you up to date with progress on this initiative.
Serve Your Local School Appeal
Dear Friends
Today's statistics make sobering reading: 96% of children
and young people have no church connection. Yet almost all attend
their local school.
The Scottish Government's guidance for schools states: In recognition of Scotland's Christian heritage, schools are encourage to draw upon the rich resources of this tradition.
Curriculum for Excellence also endorses the development of community partnerships by schools.
In partnership with other organisations we are launching a new project - Serve Your Local School - to inspire and equip churches to engage more with their local schools.
'Serve Your Local School' Coordinator
We need to raise support for a
member of staff to coordinate this important new
initiative. Serve Your Local School will work to
raise awareness of available opportunities, provide know-how, share
ideas and resources and give encouragement to churches.
We believe there is scope for hundreds of churches to make a difference to the lives of children and young people in Scotland.
Please consider giving generously to this project. Thank you for your support!
Yours,

Andy Bathgate
Chief Executive
PS if your church is already serving their local school, we'd love to hear from you! Simply drop us a line via our contact form or e-mail to let us know what's happening.
Westwoodhill Evangelical Church's story
This led to more requests from schools, resulting in RME lesson outlines and Bible "story sacks" for nursery and primary schools.
Today, the church now serves 13 local schools through:
An annual meal provided for all school management teams, with after dinner speaker
A Bibleworld exhibition, attended by 800 children
A Christmas Cracker play, explaining the reason why Jesus was born
Distributing 450 It's Your Move books to P7 pupils each year
A thank you lunch for the office staff from each school
