Alltnacriche Staff Housing Appeal
Our Alltnacriche Centre is set in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. We support SU holidays, weekend SU and church groups and provide school residentials during term time. An increasing number of schools are choosing to explore the Classroom Outdoors as part of a Curriculum for Excellence.
Context
Over the last 23 years, the Centre has grown in size, as has the scope of activities offered. The increased use has highlighted the inadequacy of our staff accommodation. In order to sustain and develop work at the Centre, this situation has to be addressed.
Progress on funding the development
In October 2008, an appeal was made to supporters and over £200,000 donated to date. The Board of Scripture Union Scotland committed a further £100,000. Other grants and donations bring the total raised to around £410,000. At this point we believe this will be sufficient to cover the full cost of the project. We are very grateful to all those who have enabled through their financial generosity and prayer support.
Making it happen
We are building four semi detached, two bedroom houses, which we believe will offer a good quality of accommodation that will stand the severe winter weather. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of August, which will be followed by a period of kitting out the buildings.
Building work commenced on site in mid March with 12 inches of snow on the ground. Since then, fair weather has allowed good progress on the major excavation and groundworks. Foundations and blockwork up to floor level are complete and work on services have commenced. Timber kits have arrived and are being built. We will continue to keep this page and the blog up to date with news of progress.
What Others Say...
"Over the past 20 years many different groups have come to Alltnacriche and each year at Easter and in the summer, SU holidays have been held there. There is a unique feel to this beautiful centre surrounded by hills, lochs and woods. Here people have been introduced to the Christian gospel and helped to grow in their faith."
Colin Sinclair
"Working as Project Manager for the initial development of Alltnacriche, was one of the most fulfilling periods in my life. As old plaster ceilings fell down, it was exciting to see money pour in to enable the project to be completed well beyond the initial meagre budget."
